One Country Statement on Vice President Kamala Harris' Proposed Small Business Plan
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project (OCP) – an organization dedicated to amplifying the voices and priorities of rural Americans – applauded Vice President Kamala Harris' proposed small business plan:
“With the 2024 election around the corner, Vice President Harris’ proposed small business plan reinforces our confidence in her to serve as our country’s next leader. Harris has demonstrated she will fight for a future where every person – in blue states and red states, in urban areas and rural areas – has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead.
“During her time as Vice President, Kamala Harris has accelerated huge progress for rural America, expanding economic opportunities in rural communities, lowering costs for Americans in rural areas, and increasing rural healthcare by boosting funding where it is most needed. The Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy reports that small businesses make up 84.8% of the establishments in rural counties and employ 54.3% of workers. As the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris has stepped up and laid out a detailed plan centered around small businesses which are the lifeblood of our country’s economy.
“In stark contrast, former President Trump neglected rural communities in favor of big corporations, special interests, and billionaires. Harris’ plan focuses on hardworking American families, opening doors of opportunity for rural businesses, encouraging economic growth, and easing the barriers many small businesses face.”
Vice President Harris’ proposal includes providing a large expansion of tax relief for starting a small business, cutting unnecessary red tape for small businesses, and setting the goal of 25 million new business applications in her first term.
