One Country Project Reaction to Release of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Rural Playbook

WASHINGTON, DC— This week, the White House released the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Rural Playbook in an effort to help local, state, and tribal leaders unlock the historic investments made over the last year in rural communities. Coinciding with this announcement came the news that President Biden and senior administration officials would be embarking on a nationwide tour to connect with Rural Americans on their own turf in the coming months. Below is a statement from One Country Project founder and former Senator Heidi Heitkamp on these announcements:

“The One Country Project has continuously called for more direct outreach and engagement by lawmakers to rural communities and are excited to see the Biden Administration has heeded our call. Since taking office, the Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress have made historic investments in rural America by passing the American Rescue Plan and Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act.

“These bills will help rural and tribal communities access affordable high-speed internet, improve transportation and water infrastructure, accelerate the transition to a clean energy future, bolster supply chains, and spur job creation and economic growth in both the short and long-term. We applaud the Administration’s efforts to ensure local, state, and tribal leaders are aware of how to best access these critical funds so they have the intended and maximum impact.

“The Rural Playbook outlines how Democrats have delivered for rural America through policymaking in Washington, while direct on the ground engagement demonstrates a commitment by the Administration to ensuring these policies connect with the people they impact. This level of commitment is what rural and tribal communities deserve, and what Democrats must do if they are to rebuild their relationship with rural America.”

“As Mitch Landrieu, Senior Advisor and Infrastructure Implementation Coordinator for the White House, said today, ‘building a better America requires that these funds reach rural areas that have been left behind for way too long.’”
