One Country Statement on President Trump's Proposed Budget

Trump Budget: Mixed Up Priorities and Broken Priorities

WASHINGTON, D.C. Heidi Heitkamp, co-founder of the One Country Project, issued the following statement after the Trump administration released its Fiscal Year 2021 proposed budget.

“President Trump has spent the last three years haphazardly taking a series of actions that have hurt American businesses and communities while ignoring the needs of rural America. This year’s budget is another collection of broken promises and mixed up priorities.

“Last week the administration doled out its final batch of trade relief for farmers stung by the failed trade war. This week the administration released a budget that cuts crop insurance, conservation, and other farm programs by 8 percent. From a president who promised growth at 4, 5, or 6 percent and promised to leave Medicare and Social Security untouched, we now see a budget that proposes catastrophic cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.

“From the jump in farm bankruptcies in 2019 to unprecedented rural hospital closures, rural America is worse off than they were before this president took office. Americans are savvy enough to know that this budget, like all of Trump’s plans, will ultimately be a bust that leaves others holding the bag.”
