One Country Statement on February Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. –
One Country Project co-founder Heidi Heitkamp issued the following statement after the release of the February jobs report:
“Despite the decrease in COVID-19 cases and an increase in vaccine availability, we are still seeing a sluggish jobs market — a key indicator that the path to recovery for the U.S. economy and American people will take time and a sustained effort by our elected leaders,” said One Country Project co-founder Heidi Heitkamp. “Americans remain unemployed at historic numbers, and it’s clear that Congress must act to pass President Biden’s American Recovery Plan today and continue to push for a recovery that will create American jobs and bolster U.S. economic competitiveness.
“While Congressional Republicans balk at providing direct stimulus payments to Americans, President Biden and Democrats in Congress are focused on how they can support those who have been most devastated by this pandemic. With additional aid for small businesses and infrastructure projects that will create good paying jobs, this rescue package takes important steps toward the Biden administration’s goal of building back better. But, there is more work to be done and Congress must come together to enact the bipartisan solutions Americans across the country—in cities or rural communities—need to move forward.
“Millions of Americans remain out of work as a result of the pandemic, and to not take action, or to underact, in this emergency, will leave America hurting with only Republican obstructionists to blame.”
