One Country Project Releases Second Policy Roadmap on Rural Transportation
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project (OCP) released the second policy roadmap in its Rural Policy Roadmap series. This roadmap highlights the state of rural transportation infrastructure and the need for immediate and significant funding for improvements and updates.
“The bipartisan infrastructure package that passed the Senate last month includes significant and long-overdue investments in rural transportation infrastructure. Rural infrastructure needs to be a priority as the House continues to discuss this once-in-a-generation infrastructure package,” said OCP co-founder Heidi Heitkamp. “America’s transportation infrastructure are the arteries of our economy, connecting people and products – but many of those arteries are blocked. Over a fifth of rural roads are in mediocre to poor condition, and investing in rural highways, farm-to-market roads, and other rural transportation infrastructure will create good-paying jobs and spur greater economic growth for the American economy.”
The One Country Project aims to better connect the country by promoting rural issues and ensuring policymakers in Washington prioritize the rural communities that have been left behind for decades.
“Our second rural policy roadmap highlights the critical nature of transportation infrastructure and offers specific policy solutions to ensure rural America is a part of the upcoming infrastructure package and surface transportation bill. Lawmakers and rural advocates alike can use this information to speak up for the rural communities who power the American economy.”
The second rural policy roadmap covers the state of rural transportation infrastructure, identifies the importance of rural transportation systems, and outlines policy priorities to address this issue.
