WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project founder Senator Heidi Heitkamp joined President Biden for the signing of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law. To watch the bill signing, click here.

“The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is emblematic of what we need to see coming out of Washington. Legislators from both sides of the aisle came together to pass this legislation and make sustainable, smart investments in American communities.

“This is a particularly important win for rural America. It will help bring affordable internet and updated transportation infrastructure to rural and Native communities, among other benefits. This will help increase access to emergency services, bolster supply chains, and spur economic growth. At a time when rural communities are often feeling left behind, this is a signal that, led by President Biden and Democratic majorities on Capitol Hill, policymakers have rural communities top of mind. Now, lawmakers must go into rural communities and explain how these policies positively impact their lives today and in the years ahead.

“And, while the bipartisan infrastructure legislation is an historic achievement, it is only part of the package. Democrats should complete this investment in American communities by passing the Build Back Better plan next. Whether it’s through the plan’s funding for childcare, sustainable agriculture, or farmer debt relief, Build Back Better is the type of legislative action that will empower hardworking Americans across the country, especially as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.”
