One Country Statement on March 2022 Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project founder Heidi Heitkamp issued the following statement after the release of the March jobs report:"As President Biden said today, the March jobs report indicates that ‘our economy has gone from being on the mend to being on the move’ which is encouraging to see as individuals and businesses continue to emerge from the pandemic. The past two months have shown steady job growth, with private-sector firms adding 431,000 jobs in March and the unemployment rate ticking down to 3.6 percent, just 0.1 percent higher than the pre-pandemic level.
“Although the American job market remains solid under the Biden administration, inflation and recession worries continue to weigh heavily on Americans. As we head into the second quarter of 2022, efforts must be made to put in place policies that address not only the immediate issues, such as rising gas prices and supply chain disruptions, but also the underlying issues like America’s transition to a clean energy future that have long-term implications for our economy. In addition, it is important that resources from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and American Rescue Plan continue to reach small businesses and rural communities. These resources will help many Americans hold down well-paid jobs, access financial assistance if needed, and fund programs specific to each community’s needs.”
