One Country Statement on July 2022 Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project founder and former Senator Heidi Heitkamp issued the following statement after the release of the July jobs report:Today’s jobs report is an encouraging sign that the policies put in place by the Biden administration and Democratic Congress in response to the COVID-19 pandemic are doing what they were intended to do—rebuild and strengthen our economy. The private sector has now recovered all jobs lost during the pandemic and the 528,000 jobs added to the U.S economy in July were more than double the 250,000 that were anticipated. These are positive signs for our economy and illustrate how the Democrats passage of the American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law are having a positive impact on the U.S. economy.
With more people working now than at any point in American history and a 3.5% unemployment rate—the lowest it’s been in more than 50 years-- the Democrats in Congress and the Biden Administration are making significant progress for working families by creating jobs.
While there is more work to be done to help Americans feeling the pinch of inflation, gas prices have maintained a downward trend for the past 50 days and with the upcoming signature of the Chips and Science Act President Biden and Democrats are poised to build on the growth in manufacturing that has resulted in nearly 41,000 more jobs than there were before the pandemic. This piece of legislation will enhance U.S. economic competitiveness and national security, create good paying manufacturing jobs here in the United States, fund scientific research that will spur the innovation and development of U.S. technologies, and help to address supply chain issues in a way that will lower costs for consumers.
In the coming days Democrats are poised to make our economy even stronger by passing the Inflation Reduction Act to reduce prescription drug costs, make health care more affordable, accelerate domestic clean energy production and jobs, invest in rural America, and reduce the deficit.
