One Country Project Commends Biden Administration for Prioritizing Rural Health
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project founder Heidi Heitkamp issued the following statement in reaction to the recent announcement regarding the Biden Administration’s latest investment in rural health care:“This crucial $110 million investment through the American Rescue Plan prioritizes the health of rural communities across the country, and further illustrates the Biden Administration’s commitment to improving the lives of rural Americans. Rural areas have historically lacked access to quality care, which has only worsened during the pandemic. A 2020 poll found that one in every four rural U.S households were unable to get medical care for serious problems amidst the pandemic. It is now more important than ever that those living in rural and tribal communities can get the health care they so desperately need.”
“By investing in 208 rural health care organizations and expanding critical health services for nearly 5 million people in 43 states and Guam, the Biden Administration is standing boldly behind the notion that where we live should not determine whether or not we have access to care.”
“These grants will also bolster our economy. $9 million dollars of this funding will go to improving care for 187,000 rural Americans who live in energy communities, which are areas with high amounts of energy industry jobs. By aiding these energy communities, we are further investing in the workers who will assist in cementing our energy independence.”
