One Country Statement on January 2023 Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project issued the following statement after the release of the January jobs report:“Recovery efforts put forth by President Biden and Democrats in Congress have started the year off on the right track, with the U.S. seeing the lowest unemployment rate in over half a century and the addition of over 517,000 jobs this past month. Since President Biden took office, 12 million jobs have been created, including 800,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs, bolstered by policies such as the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPs and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act.
“The Fed has been making efforts to cool the economy after a historic recovery from the pandemic. These impressive jobs numbers paired with evidence of slowing inflation provides hope for a soft landing from unprecedented growth. At the moment, however, inflation rates continue to burden our communities and households, especially in rural America, where costs of living are rising most rapidly.
“While Democrats are fighting to ease daily burdens for the working class, House Republicans' current budget includes cuts to essential programs such as Social Security and Medicare as well as a 30 percent sales tax on all goods, which will exacerbate present concerns and further harm working families by impeding their access to necessities like gas and groceries.
“As the country transitions from recovery into stability, we are optimistic that the Biden administration will continue to chart a course that maintains the resilience of the job market that provides so many opportunities for hard-working Americans. We look forward to hearing President Biden’s plans to advocate for rural Americans next Tuesday in his State of the Union address.”
