One Country Statement on February 2023 Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project issued the following statement after the release of the February jobs report:“In the two years since President Biden has taken office, recovery efforts have helped create over 12 million jobs, an unprecedented degree of growth that continued through February with the addition of 311,000 jobs. Democrat-led policies such as the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act have spurred the creation of good-paying jobs, particularly in the critical sectors of domestic manufacturing and clean energy.
“Increased job opportunities, rising wages, and slowing inflation is giving hope to American families, particularly rural Americans, who have faced higher costs of living. As reflected in his discretionary budget plan yesterday, President Biden aims to build on these wins by continuing to lower costs for health insurance, prescription drugs, childcare, and more – easing burdens on hard-working Americans.
“Meanwhile, Republicans are lacking in both cohesive leadership and any semblance of a budget plan. The fractious caucus has a history of proposing cuts to essential programs such as Medicare and Social Security, and seeks to slash SNAP funding in this year’s farm bill. Doing so will exorbitantly increase the cost of gas, groceries, health care and more, causing working families to suffer.
“The resilience of the job market reflects the ability of the Biden administration and Democrats in Congress to build an economy that provides opportunities for hard-working Americans. Now, with critical legislation on the docket, we look forward to working with Congress to ensure their budget reflects and prioritizes the needs of rural Americans.”
