One Country Statement on June 2023 Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project issued the following statement after the release of the June jobs report:

“After over two years of record growth and recovery, June’s addition of 209,000 jobs shows a transition to stability heralded in by policies championed by President Biden and Democrats in Congress. The historic Inflation Reduction Act and the Chips and Science Act have drawn manufacturers to the U.S., demonstrating that federal funding can encourage private investment, spur a transition to a sustainable economy, secure our domestic energy supply, and put the U.S. at the forefront of clean energy technology, all while creating jobs that open opportunities for rural communities across America.

“Many of those entering the workforce and helping to build out critical infrastructure have been women. But to preserve these gains, more work must be done to secure everyday Americans’ finances. Americans throughout the country, particularly in rural regions, have been struggling to afford groceries and health care. Although inflation is easing, Republicans’ push to cut Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid benefits — on top of the end of pandemic-era provisions — has led to dangerous spikes in food insecurity and uncertainty for working families.

“The upcoming Farm Bill presents an opportunity for Congress to set an agenda for rural America that puts it on track for economic success and sustainability, ensures people can continue to live and work in rural regions, and creates opportunities for rural America to grow and thrive in the 21st century.”
