One Country Statement on August 2024 Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project (OCP) issued the following statement after the release of the August jobs report:
“With the addition of 142,000 jobs in August, the U.S. labor market is cooling yet continues to show resilience and growth. August’s report reflects the Biden-Harris Administration’s ability to navigate a soft landing for the economy and creates hope that inflation can ease without undue harm to the labor market. It’s especially promising to see stronger wages and a decrease in the unemployment rate. Several industries saw increases in employment including health care, and construction – both industries that have struggled to fill job positions.
“With a pivotal election around the corner, lawmakers must pay attention to the issues with the greatest impact on working class and rural Americans – including access to quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunity – and continue to make progress in strengthening their well-being and economic security.”
