One Country Project Releases Platform to Stimulate the Rural Economy

In the fourth of six Rural Playbook releases, OCP outlines policies that aim to revitalize rural communities and create new opportunities.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project (OCP) released new policy points of its 2024 Rural Playbook. The Rural Playbook equips Democrats in rural areas with critical facts and talking points to connect with rural voters. The fourth of six editions, Stimulating the Rural Economy, shares how economic diversification, addressing healthcare costs, and investing in rural infrastructure are winning issues that can help stimulate the rural economy.

Decades of disinvestment and consolidation have sapped the economic vitality of many rural communities leaving them particularly susceptible to economic shocks and prolonged downturns. To combat these trends, we must invest resources in rural communities that will diversify and stimulate the econo9my, create economic growth, and lead to stabilization and population growth.

“A multifaceted strategy is necessary to address the complex issues affecting rural communities and to foster sustainable growth and development,” said OCP founder and former U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp. “By working to strengthen our country’s financial resilience, reduce prescription drug costs, bridge the digital divide, and support investments in our infrastructure, policymakers can create a more resilient and prosperous rural America.”
