One Country Project Releases Platform to Educate and Train Our Future Workers
In the fifth of six Rural Playbook releases, OCP outlines policies that support educators, improve the quality of learning for rural students, and reflect the needs of our workforce.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project (OCP) released new policy points of its 2024 Rural Playbook. The Rural Playbook equips Democrats in rural areas with critical facts and talking points to connect with rural voters. The fifth of six editions, Educating and Training Our Future Workers, hares how investing more in education, taking action to improve our educator pipeline, and prioritizing the quality of learning for rural students can ensure the next generation of workers are properly trained and prepared to take on any challenges they face.
The policies outlined in Project 2025 do not reflect the realities of education and workforce needs in rural America. Further, focusing on political distractions does not close the achievement gap, help recruit bright young minds into the field of education, address the number of underappreciated and under supported educators leaving the profession, or improve the quality of content taught in our classrooms. It’s time for lawmakers to break away from the political noise and start supporting the very people being impacted; students and teachers.
“Most rural communities have only one school – a public school – in the area. They lack private schools and therefore miss out on the benefits of voucher funding,” said OCP founder and former U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp. “Strengthening our school systems, supporting our teachers, and removing politics from classroom curriculum ensures students are properly equipped for the workforce and our rural communities remain attractive for families.”
In Educating and Training Our Future Workers, One Country Project outlines talking points that support:
-
Directing taxpayer dollars to public school stems rather than private education;
-
Raising teacher pay in addition to providing teachers with professional support and classroom resources to effectively teach students; and
-
Apprenticeship programs, programs that can unlock the potential of younger Americans and set them up for successful careers.
