One Country Statement on the GDP Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project (OCP) issued the following statement on the GDP report.
“In the last quarter of 2024, the national gross domestic product grew by 2.3%. This GDP report caps off a year where the economy exceeded expectations, increasing by 2.5% from 2023. The steady growth in GDP can be attributed to sound fiscal policy, high consumer spending, low unemployment, and wage growth. Despite some persistent inflation and significant political turmoil across the globe, the U.S. economy is in a solid position heading into a year full of uncertainty.
One Country Project commends the Biden-Harris Administration on the fastest average economic growth the nation has seen since the 1990s and the fastest wage growth for middle- and low-income earners since the 1960s. As President Trump’s policies begin to take effect, it is unclear if this economic growth will continue. Steep tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico go into effect this weekend, increasing uncertainty for both consumers and businesses alike. Economists suggest that the administration’s trade and immigration policies may lead to faster inflation, slower growth, or both. The stability and growth achieved over the last four years positions the U.S. economy to navigate the challenges of 2025. However, sustained growth will require stable and competent leadership to carefully manage trade policies, inflation, and global economic headwinds."
