One Country Statement on January 2025 Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project (OCP) issued the following statement after the release of the January jobs report:
“In January, the U.S. labor market added 143,000 jobs, coming in below economists’ projections and highlighting the uncertainty around President Donald Trump’s tariffs. Employment declined in the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction industry and changed very little in several major industries including construction, manufacturing, hospitality and more, with the unemployment rate dipping to 4%.
“The decline in job growth in January come as no surprise, given President Donald Trump’s chaotic approach to leadership in the first month of his second term. The compounded uncertainty surrounding the president’s tariffs and his attempts to fire hundreds of thousands of federal workers is clearly adding even more stress to the economy. Trump’s tariffs and crackdown on immigration could cause prices to skyrocket and potentially kick off another round of inflation for consumers. The inflationary policies put in place in the last years of Trump’s first term bogged down President Biden’s approval ratings and were key to voters returning Trump to office. One Country Project encourages President Trump to refocus his energy on the American people rather than his personal agenda. The American people deserve stable consistent leadership.”
