One Country Statement on January CPI Report
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project (OCP) issued the following statement after the release of the January CPI report:
“Adding to a month of turbulence and economic uncertainty, today’s CPI report shows that inflation unexpectedly rose by 3% in January. This is a 0.5-percent increase from December, making it the fastest monthly increase since August 2023. Tariff sensitive sectors like gas and groceries experienced price hikes that offset decreases in other parts of the economy. For rural Americans, who are disproportionately impacted by fluctuations in fuel and grocery prices, this news is unacceptable. This resurgent inflation compounded with President Donald Trump’s aggressive action on tariffs, deportations, tax cuts, and deregulation are intensifying economic uncertainty and raising concerns about the future of the U.S. economy. The Trump Administration must prioritize financial certainty and security for families over random and volatile changes to public policy.”
