One Country Statement on June Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, One Country Project co-founder Heidi Heitkamp issued the following statement after the release of the June jobs report:

“The acceleration of employment growth in June affirms President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda is helping Americans. Despite Republican efforts to strip pandemic-related relief from hard-working families, the 850,000 new jobs created in June reflect how the support provided through the American Rescue Plan is helping workers find new jobs and ensure their families are taken care of as they get back on their feet. From agricultural communities to remote towns across the country, rural America is beginning to build back its economic power.

“While unemployment claims remain at their lowest levels since March 2020, many workers still face steep barriers to rejoining the workforce, however. We need to ensure that families have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed including a higher minimum wage and access to childcare services and high-speed internet. To further the trajectory of economic growth and create sustainable, 21st-century jobs, Congress and the Biden administration must continue working together to pass the American Jobs Plan which will invest in infrastructure, shrink the digital divide, and bring innovative industries to rural communities.”
